Rod Carriere

     Rod was born in Roblin, Manitoba and was the 8^th child born to Marcel and Catherine Carriere (nee Langevin). Rod was raised on a farm outside of San Clara, MB., alongside his brothers and sisters; Yves, Valerie, Alcide, William, Angela, Terrance, Reynald, Thomas, Rosalie and James. Rod was always a free spirit. He liked to greet his siblings that were coming home from school on the bus, waiting for them outside butt naked. He started elementary school in Walker School in San Clara and later attended middle school in Roblin. In 1974, he moved with family to Gilliam, MB., where he stayed to graduate high school and honoured his high school diploma. After graduating high school, he headed out west to go work with his brothers on the oil rigs. After starting on the rigs, he moved to Medicine Hat, AB. Roddy, later moved to Red Deer, AB., where he met the love of his life Carol Grover, in the spring of 1981. While still advancing in the oil patch, Rod and Carol decided to move to Medicine Hat, to be closer to family. Roddy popped the question to Carol and they wed in Hanna, AB., on June 29^th 1985. Rod and Carol welcomed their first born child, Tyler in 1987, later came along Melissa in 1989 and Thereon in 1995. Spud got his big break in 1995, when he first went consulting for the oil rigs and continued this career path up until his passing. Big Head, as he was fondly known by some, wanted to move back to his roots. So in 2008, Rod and Carol decided to move back to Togo, near to where he grew up as a child and a place they would call home, until his untimely passing. Later on, Rod became “Papa” to the many grandchildren of whom he loved and adored. Memphis, Beau, Luke and Kora with Tyler & Brittany; Peyton, Raeleigh, Baue and Blake with Melissa & Cole. Spud had many accomplishments in life, having a patent for Flocking Tanks, owning his own business, consulting for the oil rigs and being the first child in his family to get his high school diploma. Roddy, had many passions in life from hunting (especially beavers), playing guitar, riding his snowmobile, fishing, motor biking, having grandkids visit for the summer and camping with them.  Above all his passions was his family, Roddy loved his family immensely. Rod will always be remembered for being the entertainment, singing and playing his guitar. Can’t forget his big smile, loud laugh and giving the biggest bear hugs for all. He will always be the star of the show.

Rod is survived by his loving wife, Carol, three children; Tyler (Brittney), Melissa (Cole), Thereon (Mackenzie), Memphis, Beau, Luke, Kora, Peyton, Raeleigh, Baue and Blake, siblings; Valerie (Earl), Alcide (Jackie), William, Terrance, Reynald (Gay), Thomas, Rosalie (Ralph), James as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents; siblings; Yves and Angela, nephew Jeff and sister-in-law Bev.

Visitation was held January 18, 2021 from the Chapel of Wolkowski Funeral Service, Kamsack. A Funeral Service was held January 19, 2021 from the Chapel of Wolkowski Funeral Service with Fr. Tony of Ste. Clair Roman Catholic Church, San Clara officiating. Those who so desire, may make memorial donations, in memory of Rod, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
