Elisabeth Neuhofer

Elisabeth Neuhofer  October 17^th, 1938 - March 30^th, 2021

Elisabeth Neuhofer (Frauenlob) - lovingly called, Lisi was born October 17, 1938 in Plainfeld, Salzburg, Austria.

She was the 5^th born amongst nine children.  Despite being born at the beginning of WWII, she had a good, happy, and busy upbringing. Her parents, Maria and Bartholomäus Frauenlob were fair-minded entrepreneurs - owning a flour mill that would continue until the present day.

In her late teens, Elisabeth met Martin Neuhofer, a young and handsome mechanic who did repairs at the Frauenlob family flour mill.

In 1957, Elisabeth and Martin married and moved to Eugendorf, where they started an ever-expanding car dealership and raised eight children.  In 1980, at the age of 42, Elisabeth and Martin emigrated to Canada, settling in Inglis, Manitoba. Together with five of their children, they started a new and exciting chapter of life.  Being very musical and social, Elisabeth learned English quickly. She initiated the building of a repair shop for Martin and became a successful Realtor herself.

Elisabeth and Martin’s children grew up, and as they settled nearby, it was not long before their home would overflow with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who visited often. Elisabeth loved to entertain – cooking and baking were a delight. She gardened and took particular care to tend to the flowers and trees, so the bees and birds had somewhere to land.

Elisabeth had a zest for life and found joy in the little things. Her smile could light up a room.  She often said, “smile and the world smiles with you” -a motto she lived by her whole life.  Five years ago, Elisabeth was diagnosed with a severe illness that quickly incapacitated her and diminished her quality of life. She spent the following years in care.

During the night on March 30^th, 2021, after most of her family was able to say goodbye, her suffering ended, and she died peacefully in the Russell Personal Care Home, with her daughter by her side.  

Elisabeth is survived by her husband of 64 years, Martin.  Her children, Martin Jr. (Margarete), Elisabeth (Toni), Gertraud (Ingo), Georg (Brenda), Rudolf (Fahra), Paul (Jennifer), Claudia (Mark) and Bernhard (Shannon).  Twenty-two grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; Siblings, Albert Frauenlob, Marianne Schmitzberger and Rosi Frauenlob. As well as nieces, nephews, and friends.

We are thankful for the professional care Elisabeth received over the past few years and extend a heartfelt thank-you to the nurses, doctors, and staff at the Russell PCH who guided her to her final days.  Thank you also to all those who have offered their condolences to the family.
