Clement Carriere

   Clement was born to Georges and Flora (Lamontagne). He was the baby of the family. Growing up on the family farm, his love was the horses. He would tell us how he picked up other children on the way to school. His first job was at Gunner Mines where he worked with his two brothers, Laurent and Aurel.  He worked there until he broke his leg and then went to Winnipeg to work for Perth’s. This is where he met the love of his life, Eileen Laviolette. They were married in San Clara on October 20, 1959. They then moved to Dauphin where he was the milkman and Linda was born November 29, 1960 – Linda always said she was the milkman’s daughter and Mom didn’t see the humor in that.

   In 1962, they packed up and moved to Flin Flon, where he worked for Gardewine, then CN.  In 1972 he and the family transferred to Lynn Lake where he and Eileen took up snowmobiling. A lot of good times were had.  

   In 1975, he packed up his family and transferred to Yorkton, SK.  He and Mom were very happy as they were getting closer to home.  In 1978, he was offered a transfer to Ontario, they did not give it much thought, they were not going.  He left Yorkton and came back to San Clara where he started working for the department of highways.  His big brother Rene was the foremen. They built their house in San Clara in 1978, and called it home. After Rene retired, Clem became the foreman until his retirement.

    While in San Clara he became actively involved in the curling rink.  He spent countless hours there trying to make it a great place to come and curl and he succeeded at that.

   In February 2020, they sold their house and moved to Roblin at the Maple Manor, no more lawns to cut and no more weeds. Life was good.

Then 2021, came along and did not treat him well. He had a stroke February 15, 2021 which left his left arm not very functional. Then along came gout and then shingles. After getting that cleared up, pneumonia came along and also an emergency trip to Brandon to blow out gall stones. Finally, after beating all this, he came home to start therapy on his left arm.

On May 20, he slipped and broke his right hip and it was pretty rough for him after that. Clem passed away at the Roblin Hospital with Linda at his side. 

   He leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years 8 months, Eileen, daughter Linda and her husband Craig. Grand children Stacey, Kristy (Doug), Tiffany (TJ) Great Grandchildren Hannah, Liam, Caya. Sister-in-law Antoinette widow of Laurent. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.

   Clem was predeceased by his parents, Georges and Flora. His in-laws, Fabian and Beatrice Laviolette. Brothers, Leo, Armand, Amede, Laurent, Aurel, Rene, Edmond and sister Imelda. Sister- in-laws, Rosie, Joesphine, Louise, Annie, brother-in-law Nicholas and son-in-law Grant Langevin.

Funeral Mass was held July 2, 2021 from Ste. Claire Cemetery, San Clara, MB with Father Paul Bisson officiating.  Interement followed at Ste. Claire Cemetery, San Clara, MB.  Donations in memory of Clement may be made to Ste. Claire Roman Catholic Cemetery Fund (Box 75, San Clara, MB., R0L 1T0).
