Betty Bauereiss Obituary

BETTY ANNE BAUEREISS August 26, 1947 October 16, 2022 Betty Anne Bauereiss of Dropmore, MB passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the age of 75, at the Russell Hospital with her children by her side. Betty was born August 26, 1947 to Herman and Alvina Halwas, baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended school in Inglis. She was raised on the farm and the farm continued to be part of who she was. In 1964 she married Tom Bauereiss, from that their family started, Darlene in 1965, Brett in 1968 and Carman in 1972. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Winnipeg, but it didn’t take long for them to figure they were just a couple “country bumpkins” so back home they came. Tom and Betty moved to a farm northeast of Inglis, but later rented land in the Dropmore area and then in 1970 purchased the Watt Ferris farm and settled there until 2000 when they moved to the outskirts of Dropmore. Mom and dad’s life was a partnership, they worked side by side and travelled across the western provinces and east to Ottawa, south to Florida. Since dad preferred his feet on the ground, most holidays were taken by car. In 1989 they hopped a plane and headed to Germany to visit and meet more family. As this was not the mode of transportation for dad, mom loved it. Mom travelled with her sister, Debbie and brother–in– law, Fred to Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Mexico a few times. If her health would not have slowed her down, there was a few more places on her bucket list to explore. She was very active, loved taking walks and setting out for a hike somewhere she thought would be a challenge. She took up downhill skiing at the age of 53 and was always ready for a trip out west which she took with Darlene and Elaine a couple times. She was wanting to ski out there at the age of 75, I hope your spirit can “Go Rest High on the Mountain”. She also enjoyed gliding across the lake in her kayak or out on the side by side checking the trails or just cruising the neighborhood to see what the boys were doing. “Free and Easy” was our mom. Gardening and her flower beds kept her hands busy, her love for lilies especially the white ones were evident. Baking those favorite cookies for our birthday gifts and Christmas baking trays just because we might not have enough dainties or they were everyone’s favorites. Her hands and her mind never stopped, and history was a keen interest she had. In 1995 she spearheaded a Dropmore Reunion and with a reunion a history book was needed. She compiled and printed a history book, “Then and Now” of the Dropmore, Castleavery, Grainsby and Rochedale areas and had it ready for the reunion. In 2008 she was part of the group who compiled the RM of ShellmouthBoulton book. In 2019 she compiled history, pictures, and memories “To Canada from Germany” the Bauereiss history. At the present time there is one unfinished book, “The Steiler Family”. Her family Tom, Darlene and Garth, and Justin; Brett and Jennifer, Seth, Kathryn, Kash, Tripp, Layla and Decker, Wyatt, Cali and Devin; Carman and Kerri, Gabby, Donavon and Walker, Bohdy, Brock and Tess made her life full. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Tom in 2017; her parents, Herman 1962, Alvina 2022, John and Bertha Bauereiss; son–in–law, Grant and grandson, Wyatt; brother–in–law, Ernie Bauereiss and sister–in–law, Trudy Benson. Surviving are her siblings, Iris (Derek) Bezo, Richard (Florence) Halwas, Gerald (Sonja) Halwas, Linda (Gerald) Jendrasheske, Debbie (Fred) Dunn; sister– in–law, Judy Bauereiss; brothers–in–law, Werner (Sharon) Bauereiss, Roland (Karen) Bauereiss and Dennis Benson and many nieces and nephews. Many friends and neighbours whom she knew for years and many new friends she made over the last few years, you all were a large part of her life. Taken from the Bauereiss history book… On this road called life, you have to take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what you got and remember what you had. Always forgive, but never forget. People change. Things go wrong. But just remember the ride goes on.
