Wennonah was the eldest of 14 children. Wennonah was a teacher all her life, not only professionally, but to her younger siblings and family as well. She enjoyed reading and spending time with family. She was very interested in her culture and language. You would hear her speaking the language to her grandkids, especially telling them to be quiet (bizaan) or don’t (gego).

Wennonah started her teaching education journey in the early 1970’s in Brandon, Manitoba, as a student in the Program to Educate Native Teachers for a few years, she then came home to her only daughter Ramona Anne. Ramona was only with us all for a short time.

Wennonah then went on to continue caring for the family, nieces and nephews that needed her. She then continued her journey to teach at in the community.  She taught at Valley River School then later at Chief Clifford Anishinabe School, then on to Tootinaowaziibeeng Anishinabe Headstart until she left us. Wennonah was a loving, caring person. Especially to the children she taught. She also enjoyed watching hummingbirds, TV shows and drinking a good cup of coffee.

She loved being with her special son, Richard (nephew), whom she raised, and especially enjoyed the company of his children, Ayshia, Ayslia, and Axl.

Wennonah was predeceased by her mother Madeline Ironstand, siblings Mary Lou and Brent; her daughter Ramona Mancheese, nephew Brent Mancheese, niece Taylor Mancheese, great-nephew Lazzlo Gorski, and her brother-in-law- Mervin Lynx Sr.
